Of dimensions similar to that of the Vatican or that of l’Etoile de Paris. It is one of the meeting points in the city center. In the Middle Ages it was an esplanade located outside the walls, where shows, fairs, conjurers, comedians and all kinds of characters were held sporadically, as well as those who did not have access to the city.
The square in its current state was designed by the architect Puig i Cadafalch. Inaugurated in 1927, the architects Frances.P. Nebot and Pere Domènech, among others, were in charge of urbanizing the square, using many of the ideas from the Puig i Cadafalch project.
The square is connected to the rest of the city, numerous bus and metro lines converge here, making it one of the starting points for visitors to take routes or go to places of interest.
