Shopping centers and department stores are open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. On certain dates (Black Friday, Christmas, Sales) they also remain open on holidays or extend their hours.

Job

The usual office hours in Barcelona are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the morning and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the afternoon, although in summer (July/August) and even on Fridays it is common for many companies opt for the intensive shift (until 3:00 p.m.). There are also quite a few administrations that apply this intensive schedule throughout the year. The hours of greatest influx of traffic in the city and of greatest movement in public transport coincide with these peaks, especially between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. (in this case also coinciding with the entrance to educational centers) and 7:00 p.m. :00 and 8:00 p.m. The loading and unloading of vehicles is also usually concentrated in a certain time slot, between 8:00 and 12:00.

Schedule

The meal schedule in Barcelona is similar to that of central and southern Spain. Normally people usually have a coffee with milk or a light lunch before leaving home. Around 10:00-11:00 a.m. it is common to find busy bars and terraces with people having breakfast, especially from the city offices: “Flutas” (smaller and longer sandwiches) with bread with tomato and cold meat, croissants and cafes set the tone. Between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., especially in summer, the beer is drunk, and on holidays the classic vermouth accompanied by olives, chips, cockles… Or any other tapas. The usual time to eat is from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., but many restaurants are already open from 1:00 p.m. The same goes for dinner. Barcelonans usually have dinner at home around 9:30-10:00 p.m., but restaurants, especially in tourist areas, already have this service from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Leisure

If it’s about having a coffee after lunch, many downtown terraces are crowded, be it winter or summer, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Starting at 7:00 p.m. is the ideal time to have a drink before dinner. In Barcelona you will find an excellent network of cocktail bars or bars with character for it. The night starts from 23:00, 24:00. Until sunrise.
