Palau Moja

La Rambla

Located opposite the church of Bethlehem.
Manor house from the beginning of the 18th century, in a neoclassical style combined with elements of a baroque style, it was a project by Josep de Copons, Marquis of Moja, to extend his residence. The palace is a sample of how the high bourgeoisie of the time lived. In 1865 the last Marquise Moja passed away without issue and five years later the Marquis of Comillas bought her. Jacint Verdaguer lived here for fifteen years as a priest of the Mossén family, also known as the prince of Catalan poets with poetic works. like Atlantis or Canigó.
Under the porches there is a Tourist Information Office and a part of the building houses departments of the Ministry of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
In front of the palace, on Portaferrisa street, there is a fountain with a large mosaic commemorating the Porta Ferrada, one of the entrance gates to the walled enclosure.
