19th century iron fountain, one of the symbols of the city.
It is one of the symbols of the city, tradition says that whoever drinks its water returns to Barcelona. Proof of this is given by the bronze plate that is on the floor and that says the following:
“If you drink water from the Canaletas Fountain you will fall in love with Barcelona. And no matter how far you go, you will always come back.”
Apart from being a symbol for the city, it is also the meeting point for the celebrations of the great triumphs of Fútbol Club Barcelona. This tradition dates back to the 1930s, since the headquarters of the sports newspaper La Rambla was located at number 13, just in front of the fountain. On game days, fans would come to the door of the building where the day’s results were written down on a blackboard.
